How to Spot a Suspicious E-mail: Quick Tips
E-mail scams are getting smarter. Knowing what to look for can keep you safe. Here is how you can quickly spot an e-mail that may be dangerous:
If the sender's e-mail looks off-such as "support@paypa1.com" instead of "paypal.com"-that's a warning.
Plenty of phishing emails threaten to lock you out of the account, and so declare, "Your account will get locked!!" Real companies seldom try to panic you into doing something, so just chill and fact-check.
A lot of mistakes or awkward phrasing may presage a scam. Usually, a legitimate company proofreads their messages.
Hover over links without clicking to check where they'd really take you. If it doesn't look right, don't click.
Be cautious with any unsolicited attachment; above all, those files that end with .exe or .zip extensions. If you weren't expecting the attachment, don't open it.
It will be easy to keep away from a number of scams and data breaches if one can identify suspicious emails. Keep an eye out for odd sender addresses, urgent language, and links that sound weird, and you will be able to spot phishing attempts and keep your information safe. Remember one thing: if an email seems off, it probably is!
